Re: Drink-driver Nicholas Darkes has been jailed for six years for causing a crash which killed his friend Adam McGuire.<br />
26 year old Darkes, from Neath, south Wales, had previously admitted causing his friend's death by careless driving while over the limit.<br />
36 year old Mr McGuire, 36, died at the scene and Darkes' father Neil suffered fractures to his neck and ribs.<br />
Darkes, who was a learner driver, was two-and-a-half times the drink-drive limit, Cardiff Crown Court heard.<br />
He was believed to have been driving between 60mph and 70mph when he crashed in the  Caerau area of Maesteg, on 10 January 2018.<br />
He was seen by witnesses climb out of a car window and flee the scene on foot, leaving his passengers behind.<br />
Ryan McGuire, the brother of one of the deceased told the court he thought Darkes was "a coward".
