Re: Twenty armed police and a helicopter were called out to an incident of sheep worrying in Pencombe, Herefordshire.
Two dogs broke into a field to savage 56 lambs in what a farmer described as "like something from a horror movie".
Some terrified lambs were mauled to death while others had their noses and ears chewed off.
Police in flak jackets surrounded the field but held fire in the hope of catching the two pet bull mastiffs.
But farmer Tom Hadley fired his shotgun at one of the dogs which ran off into woods.
Tom, 23, said: "It was absolute carnage, the dogs were attacking my lambs for fun.
