The wire-haired German pointer called Gertie dived into the waves and came back with the prosthetic limb.
Gertie and her owner John Dooner, 71, were on a beach when the woman's leg floated away after removing it to sunbathe.
John threw a stone towards the plastic leg and 18-month-old Gertie loves a game of fetch.
Artist John said: "She saw the splash and dived into the water - it's her favourite game.
"The woman was delighted to get it back and Gertie is getting a big bone as a reward."
The holidaymaker, in her late sixties, was sunbathing at Freshwater West, Pembrokeshire, when Gertie sprang into action.
