Re: A 60 year old man from Port Talbot has been sentenced to 36 weeks in prison for failing to hand over a password to his i-pad to police during an investigation, contravening an order made under Section 49 of the Regulation of Investigatory Powers Act 2000.<br />
Alan Charles Godfrey, who is currently serving an 18-month prison sentence for a child sexual exploitation offence, breaching a restraining order and perverting the course of justice, was sentenced at Swansea Crown Court yesterday.<br />
Stuart Slyman of the Wales Asset Recovery Team said: “This is the first time we have brought a prosecution under this legislation and I am pleased that we have secured a conviction.<br />
“The conviction of Alan Godfrey will serve as a warning to others who think they may be above the law that we will bring them before the court and justice will be served.”
