Re: What is thought to be one of the biggest fish ever landed from the sea in Wales was caught in Pembrokeshire waters.<br />
A magnificent blue fin tuna, weighing in at 504 pounds and measuring seven feet seven inches was brought on board the White Water charter craft, operating out of Neyland, while on a shark fishing expedition in the Celtic Deep, 45 miles out to sea.<br />
Skipper Andrew Alsop fought the powerful giant for two hours and 15 minutes as the tuna towed the boat for two-and-half miles.<br />
Describing it as "the fish of a lifetime", Andrew, aged 48, said: "We've had Welsh shark fishing records off the boat, but this was actually the first time, in 20 years, that I was both the skipper and the angler."<br />
Saundersfoot commercial fisherman Gavin Davies had chartered the boat for a day's shark fishing trip with his crew members Tom Watkins, Chris Watkins and Andrew Jones and friends Arno Tiesing and Dorian Thomas.<br />
When it was suspected that the tuna could be on the end of a line, Andrew passed over the controls of the boat to Gavin and took the rod for the battle of his life.<br />
"I really didn't think we had any chance in a million years of holding it on the tackle," he admitted. "But it really was a day that was meant to be as I was able to let Gavin take over the controls.<br />
"At one stage I thought 'I can't do this' - the fish was pinwheeling and fighting. But I had to land it, or it would just have been another fisherman's tale.<br />
"I knew it would be big, but when it eventually came up it was even more massive than I thought. It took six of us to get it on board. We made sure we had plenty of photos then put him back in the water - he was pretty tired but hopefully he would be ok.<br />
"It was an absolutely mad day, to be honest, and I'm aching all over this morning!"<br />
