Re: A "ruthless" businesswoman pretended to be the widow of a soldier killed in Afghanistan to get sympathy from her customers.<br />
Emma Hughes, 31, claimed she was left to bring up her twin sons alone after her hero husband was killed in action.<br />
But a court heard Hughes had never been married to a soldier and was in a lesbian relationship.<br />
Double glazing boss Hughes admitted aggressive and commercial practices which left customers thousands of pounds out of pocket.  <br />
Prosecutor Lee Reynolds said: "She targeted elderly and vulnerable people, mostly women.<br />
"When things went wrong Hughes said her husband was shot and killed in Afghanistan and she was left to look after their twins.<br />
"Customers took pity on her and didn't pursue her as vigorously as they would otherwise."<br />
Merthyr Tydfil Crown Court heard Hughes's windows were dangerous and the firm's workmen left homes in a "truly shocking condition".
