The former leader for the EDL (English Defence League) said about the head teacher of Birchgrove Comprehensive School near Swansea that he was "displaying fascist bullying".
He claimed a pupil was criticised for including him as a person he admired in a project about anti-bullying.
Swansea Council leader Rob Stewart said events had been deliberately distorted.
A ceremony due to be held at the school on Thursday was cancelled and the school's social media accounts suspended.
Tommy Robinson (real name is Stephen Yaxley-Lennon) wrote on Facebook that a pupil at the school had written on a board that they respected him "because he stands up for the British public".
He claimed the school took action to try to identify the pupil who wrote the praise.
Mr Robinson added: "This just underlines how our education system has been infiltrated by far-left fascists. Surely pupils are allowed to have free thought and opinion?"
