Re: Disqualified motorist Nathan Anderson, who fled the scene of an horrific crash and left his seriously ill friend Nicholas Spowart for dead, has been jailed by Swansea Crown Court in Wales, UK.
Anderson, from Cwmllynfell, lost control of his girlfriend's car near Ammanford after driving at high speeds in the early hours of the morning.
The blue Vauxhall Tigra crashed into a bank before being launched into the air and landing in a crumpled wreck.
Anderson, 23, who was already on bail for drug driving, fled the scene without checking on his friend in the wreckage or even calling 999.
The court heard that it was only by chance that a police car was driving along the road at 2.30am and found passenger Nicholas Spowart gravely ill.
When police officers tracked down the defendant, he pulled a knife and threatened to harm himself.
Mr Spowart was cut from the wreckage by firefighters before being taken to hospital with "life-changing" injuries.
For causing serious injury by dangerous driving Anderson was jailed for three-and-a-half years, and for possession of the bladed article to two months, to run consecutively making a total sentence of three years and eight months.
