Re: An investigation into the Jeremy Thorpe scandal will open again after Gwent Police admitted they may have wrongly assumed one of the suspects had died, according to a BBC documentary.<br />
A probe was launched in 2015 into the alleged attempted murder of the former Liberal leader’s gay ex-lover Norman Scott but concluded last year.<br />
Gwent Police had thought Andrew Newton (the man believed to have been hired to kill Mr Scott) was dead.<br />
But the force has told BBC Four documentary The Jeremy Thorpe Scandal that new information has come to light, suggesting he may still be alive.<br />
Deakin was one of four people accused of conspiring to murder Norman Scott in the late 1970s, a former male model who claimed to have once been the boyfriend of Thorpe.<br />
The other co-accused were David Holmes and John Le Mesurier.
